As consultants, our primary role is to make sure that we solve problems for our clients and make them and their companies better. Most of the time we do this by brainstorming, communicating, and delivering in a way that works for the client as well as our teams. The intensity of work for any project starts low and remains steady for most of its life until just few weeks before the project deadline. The peak intense period is generally one week before, and after, the go-live period. After this, things start to slow down and soon the new system becomes the norm.

Generally speaking, a consultant will tend to have a minor break after each big implementation project. This break can be in the form of time off or simply working on projects that are of a minor nature and do not require the intensity of a big project. This tends to normalise the work balance and ensures that the consultant is able to sustain his/her level of performance.

There are times though when such normalisation is not possible. I have faced such circumstances, where I was simultaneously working on various projects with very tight deadlines and extreme levels of work and pressure. During that time, I realised that I would probably need to find a better way to manage my well-being.

During my research I came across Transcendental Meditation (TM), which is a specific method of meditation. I must confess that in the past I have tried various forms of meditation but wasn’t able to integrate any of them as a daily practice in my life. I found TM to be extremely easy – just twenty minutes a day, twice a day.

There is ample evidence available to suggest that TM has profound effects on the body and the mind, and as I am integrating TM into my life, I can definitely vouch for many of these, such as:
